Pixie Princess Kuy

I wanted to design a pixie princess instead of drawing elves and fairies as I usually do! She is inspired by 80s cartoons like Herself the Elf, Strawberry Shortcake and the Grimms fairy tales series.

Sharpie pen, Procreate with Apple Ipad Pro(2024) and Apple Pencil Pro

The concepts were done with ink pen. I find it easier to sketch out concepts with traditional media before I refine the design digitally. I end up borrowing elements from different characters I liked.

I picked a palette that was borrowed from each color harmony, her final color scheme reminds me of alien Princess Mandie's, with the light yellow skin, purple hair and light white and aqua skirt.

I choose a thumbnail from my 4, upscaled it and make a rough sketch on top. The scene portrays her sitting on a flower as her kingdom is shown in the background. Other possibilities where her stealing a perfume bottle from a potion shop, flying high in the air and an interior show in her castle.

I add a multiply layer and paint on top after my first inking is done(it gets constantly reapplied every layer effect I add on top), I convert my sketch with gradient maps to both act as a guide for where I put my color and enhance the mood compared to using just grayscale, although it does make it harder to color, as every layer is stacked from bottom to top with multiply or other layer effects.

This is my final coloring, before I started to add effects and refine it.

I play around with many procreate effects and layer on on top of my final drawing for enhancement. I mainly change the colors,hues,brightness, saturation, use gradient maps and tonal curve, bloom, blur and various layer effects. A lot of "copy canvas" and pasting and then adjustments and layer modes.

The final piece is finished, it feels much different from before. It's Kuy and her kindgom in an enchanted meadow. I hope to work on her and her story more some day. I learned a lot from this course. Thank you for viewing my final project.
