Ellen is the Creative Director and Co-Founder of The Endery - a brand that uses a zero waste approach to develop contemporary knitwear from deadstock materials, combined with traditional craft and knitters in Peru. Her personal textile approaches include using a mixture of visible mending, knitting and Japanese mending techniques, she brings a sensitive and sustainable approach to her design work and is keen on using mending as a tool to fight fast fashion and conserve the true value and narrative of clothing - especially knitwear.
Ellen lived in Lima, Peru for 5 years, where she sourced sustainable fabrics for Piece + Co., a brand focussed on linking up traditional artisans and larger brands such as Nike, and Banana Republic. After many years working with artisans all over Latin America she was able to build and focus her approaches to craft to incorporate traditional techniques for a modern audience. She also saw a huge opportunity in using repurposed yarns with The Endery, which she founded alongwith co-founder Kelly Phenicie.
Alongside The Endery, Ellen is a creative consultant for Inca Tops, a large alpaca mill in Arequipa, Peru. She is responsible for concept and fiber design and the yearly handknitting yarn collection.
Passionate about the study of color and using bold expression to combat fast fashion, Ellen is a sustainable fashion advocate. She currently lives between New York, England and Lima.
