I am a freelance illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY. My work is a pop art blend of surrealism and comics, and my clients include The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Washington Post, New York Magazine, and Popular Science, among others.
I maintain an active personal practice and am at work on the second volume of my ongoing series Ellingson's Dreams, a collection of large-scale surreal drawings. I also teach a course on writing and critical theory for illustrators at the Maryland Institute College of Art's MFA in Illustration Practice program.
I come to artmaking by way of writing fiction, and I approach each of my compositions with a writerly eye for brevity, repetition, and character. I like the idea that art has rhythms and syntax that can be read—not left to right or right to left, but intuitively, in directions negotiated by the artist, the viewer, and time.
