“I am an inquiring designer who takes her job very seriously, but without taking herself too seriously.”
Giorgia Smiraglia has a multidisciplinary background that ranges from fine arts to graphic design.
Grew up in an art town in Southern Italy, she has been surrounded by the opulent beauty of Baroque since childhood. This environment fostered her interest in ornaments and the principles that sustain their elegance.
Her creative thinking is driven by two key elements: the chaos of experimentation and logical thinking to find patterns in the chaos. During her career, Giorgia indeed matured an interest in the correlation between mathematics and aesthetics, and the role that logical thinking plays in the design process. She believes that logic and creativity are not antithetical, but rather they are essential to each other to create anything great and meaningful.
After receiving a degree from the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, she launched her career working for an American designer who introduced her to the world of patterns. After the experience in Milan, she moved to London where she has been designing patterns for several firms worldwide, ranging from body care products to alcoholic beverages, from luxury hotels and restaurants to fashion firms.
Her portfolio includes clients such as Fila, The Body Shop, Marriott International, Fortnum & Mason, Pernod Ricard, Glenlivet, Glenfiddich, Rothschild, Mondadori.
Her work has been featured in several books and magazines.
