Julia Breckenreid lives in Toronto, painting stories for kids big and small. Fascinated by people and the stories they’ve lived, she uses a personal, emotional approach that allows her to connect with her subjects, audiences, and students alike.
Julia’s work has been widely recognized for its quality and depth. A recently illustrated picture book, 'Dorothy & Herbert' was chosen for the Society of Illustrators (SOI) 2021 Original Art Exhibit, showcasing the best picture books published in the U.S. In past years, Julia's work has received a gold medal from SOI, with works chosen repeatedly by SOI, American Illustration, Communication Arts and 3x3 awards annuals. She has been profiled in numerous books on the subject of illustration, most notably in TASCHEN’s 100 Illustrators, Volume 1.
