Laura Jane Boast

Hello!

I'm a designer and Creative Director of Conscious Made design studio, based in Manchester, UK. Specialising in branding and print design with an emphasis on sustainability and wellbeing. I work mainly with clients in the health, culture and tourism sectors, including Material Source, WithPrint and Nordic Muse, amongst others. My process is informed by conscious made decisions that are designed to feed the mind, warm the heart and please the senses.

All my projects are guided by two basic principles: a need for checking and a need for order. Both have played a dominant role in giving my style its distinct sense of minimalism and symmetry. An approach that seeks to combine functionality with beauty. My mission is to help companies reimagine themselves through effective strategies and distinct identities. This includes everything from naming and logo design, to creating bespoke typography, brand guidelines and 1-to-1 consultancy.

My focus on print design allows me to reimagine brands in a very personal and tactile way. This includes everything from small-scale to large-scale print such as marketing materials, packaging, stationery, merchandise, exhibitions and interior/exterior signage. My extensive knowledge in print production and circular design helps me to push the possibilities of sustainable print, which also led me to curate my own Paper Lab – a library of 500+ sustainable papers. From this I can effortlessly specify and source best papers to match with your brand, colours and environmental goals. As well as working along side The World Land Trust to calculate the carbon impact of your paper and print production and offset the unavoidable emissions.

My obsession for paper and print extends to talking about it at events such as Glug, PechaKucha Manchester and on the Arrest All Mimics video podcast with Ben Tallon. I've also led discussion panels at TopDrawer in London, for both PaperFEST and RetailFEST. And been on the judging panel for Creative Review's Annual Awards. I have also been featured in exhibitions like Manchester in Mind and Mate Act Now. Plus had the honour of being interviewed for Creative Review, Creative Boom, Computer Arts and ELLE Decor magazine, amongst other publications. I'm also dedicated to supporting independent designers and makers who create well-crafted products with a responsibility for people and the planet. Through Kickstarter I self-published Design Giving magazine, which sold in 15 countries and was featured in Hiut Denim's 'Do One Thing Well’ report.
