Phil Fisk is a photographer with ideas. He works across portraiture, still-life and motion.
His work is brimful of colour and creativity, embracing new photographic and film techniques to create beautifully-lit, conceptual studies in both still and motion formats.
Phil’s commissioned work includes an ongoing series of imagery for BAFTA as well as commercial campaigns for Channel 4, ITV, SKY and UKTV. He regularly shoots for the Observer in all sections. Phil's recent work saw him transmit the Pet Shop Boys into a vast brutalist interior for their new album. Other clients include Ink Global's in-flight magazines, Wired magazine and foreign food publications and advertising campaigns for Klarna and HarmonyCa for DDB agency on London.
He lives in South London and works everywhere.
After gaining a BA in Communications and Sociology from London’s Goldsmiths College Phil set out to gain real industry experience. An aborted attempt to gain an MA in Photography led to work first as a dark room technician then as a studio assistant and eventually managing a lighting hire company. In 2007, he became an on-set photographer for TV dramas , mainly for Channel4 and the BBC with sporadic work on low budget European cinema films. This work is what enabled him to start exploring his own practice, providing funds and equipment as well as lighting techniques he noted whilst on set. The portrait portfolio he put together in these years meant he could give up being the on set photographer and start being commissioned for his individual style and vision.
Continually experimenting creatively, Phil’s personal projects include The Alan Project and Sex on the Radio, and have led to portrait commissions and still-life editorial work for weekly magazines such as Time Out, The Times and The Observer, publications he continues to work for. His diverse experience in location shooting ranges from the Prime Minister’s Drawing Room in 10 Downing Street, to the Planet of the Apes film set in a Vancouver parking lot.
Phil’s film and TV work includes an ongoing series of imagery for BAFTA: For the Love of Film, as well as commercial campaigns for the BBC, Channel 4, ITV, SKY, UKTV and of dozens independent TV and film production companies, taking him to far-flung regions such as Newfoundland and Tajikistan. The increasing demand for moving images has also allowed Phil to advance as a Director of on-air advertising campaigns, BBC Radio 4 and for the drama Curfew on SKY1.
Other work includes commissions from The National Theatre, The English National Opera and The London Film Festival as well as marketing campaigns for iconic artists such as Madness and The Pet Shop Boys, and other literary and contract publisher work.
Twice finalist in The AOP Awards and Gold Winner in 2019, Phil was awarded a grant from the Arts Council of England in 2012 to produce the “Everyday People” exhibition, in partnership with London’s Roundhouse.
Phil has been recognised globally for his award-winning photographs by shooting for print publications around the world and syndicates his portraits through Camera Press.
He is represented by Flock agency in London.
