Introduction
This, my latest collection, is a heartfelt homage to the life and work of Frida Kahlo, reimagined through polymer clay and infused with vibrant textures and colors. Each pair of earrings tells a visual story inspired by Frida’s iconic self-portraits, from The Two Fridas's emotional rawness to The Broken Column's symbolic intensity. With meticulous detail, I sculpted miniature wearable canvases that channel her spirit of resilience, duality, and unfiltered self-expression. These pieces aren’t just accessories, they’re small tributes to Frida’s fearless honesty and the deep emotions that pulsed through her art.
Frida’s world was never confined to frames, and neither is this collection. Her love of flora, fauna, symbolism, and bold self-representation echoes in every element I decided to include, from the anatomical hearts and wounded bodies to the bright blue walls of La Casa Azul. By blending these references with a tropical touch and vibrant backdrops, I aimed to create pieces that celebrate not only Frida’s artistic legacy but also the strength and vulnerability of those who wear them. This is a collection for those who carry stories on their skin and hearts on their sleeves—just like Frida did.

Supplies
For my Frida Kahlo Collection, I handcrafted each design using high-quality polymer clay, drawing inspiration from the colors, textures, and rich symbolism found throughout Frida’s work and life. Every piece is sculpted entirely from polymer clay.
Materials & Tools Used:
• Polymer Clay (Various Colors): Blended and shaped to reflect Frida’s bold palettes and layered compositions.
• Stainless Steel Earring Posts & Jump Rings: Hypoallergenic and long-lasting for comfortable wear.
• Acrylic Roller & Clay Pasta Machine: For evenly conditioned and flattened clay sheets.
• Precision Blades, Craft Knife & Needle Tools: Essential for sculpting and texturing fine details.
• Custom Stencils: Used to maintain consistency in detailed shapes and motifs.
• Baking Surface (Ceramic Tile or Metal Tray) & Oven Thermometer: To ensure even and accurate curing.
• Sandpaper: Used to refine surfaces and edges for a clean, professional finish.
• Varnish on the Me and My Parrots design: For a glossy finish.

The Close Ups
I created the earrings inspired by some of Frida Kahlo’s most iconic works and personal symbols. The Two Fridas, The Broken Column, Me and My Parrots, La Casa Azul; each pair reflects a piece of her world, hand-sculpted in clay with care and intention. I also included the hands design, inspired by the earrings she used to wear often, those tiny hand-shaped pieces that appear in so many of her photos. I’ve always loved how Frida turned everyday objects into deeply personal talismans.
Each piece in this collection captures that unique blend of strength, pain, tenderness, and color that defines Frida. These earrings tell stories, they feel close, familiar, and carry a bit of her spirit for whoever wears them.

Process and Inspiration
Most of my process involved surrounding myself with Frida Kahlo books—reading, observing, and carefully studying the photos of her paintings and life. I spent hours flipping through pages, taking in every color, symbol, and expression. It was almost like having a conversation with her through the images, letting her guide the shapes and stories I was sculpting in clay.

Bringing it to life
Bringing this collection to life was a true collaboration. I worked with Cuban photographer Anaely Delgado, whose vision added a whole new layer to the earrings. We didn’t have a big team, just Ani, me, and three close friends; but we made it happen with laughter, teamwork, and a lot of heart. It felt like we were creating something bigger than a shoot, something filled with joy and intention.
Ani’s creativity was everywhere. She made clouds from pillow stuffing and used red string to float an anatomical heart. No fancy tricks; just clever ideas and a lot of fun. Every setup had meaning, from the soft blues and reds to the way I interacted with the pieces. We didn’t just take photos, we built a whole dream around the collection.
What I love most about working with Ani is that she gets it. She understood that this wasn’t just about the earrings, it was about Frida’s energy, about storytelling, and about creating something with soul. Thanks to her, this shoot feels like a small world of its own, one where art, emotion, and friendship come together.
