Introduction
This is how I designed a wall mural for a small independent outdoor retail store in Wales. The store has the line, 'For the Outside World' as part of it's branding and wanted to use that as part of my design.

Supplies
For this project I used Procreate on my iPad Pro, a projector, and lots of colourful paint.
Designing the Mural
I sketched a few different designs before choosing a favourite. I did all the sketch work in Procreate on the iPad - mainly as it was much quicker to edit my ideas. Once I chose a favourite design, I refined the artwork by re-drawing over and over, before selecting a colour palette.

Painting the Mural
Once the design and colours were selected, it was time to paint the mural! I prepared the wall before starting, creating a white shape to accommodate the artwork. I projected the design (line work only) onto the wall and sketched out the template in pencil. Once the paint was mixed it was tie to start...
The Final Art
...and here's the final mural! (plus Niko the dog!)

Know for Next Time...
This was a great project to work on, and I really enjoyed the whole process. But if I were to do it again, what would I change?
Well, the mural (although not massive) took a long time to paint. There was a lot of preparation time which I hadn't allocated much time for. The wall was in good condition, but there was still a lot of time consuming work to do - especially creating a blank white surface to paint on.
Next the mural itself took around 10 hours (over a few days) - this was mostly as I had to give the lighter colours 2 coats of paint. Maybe next time I will use thicker paint, however this was very expensive when researching that to use. Also, as my design had a lot of 'line' art, this was very time consuming to paint. Perhaps next time I will create a design with more block colours and fewer lines.
Despite this thought the painting was very enjoyable, and I had a lovely time chatting to people in the store while I worked. It also felt great to create something at a larger scale, rather than draw in my sketchbooks or on the iPad.
Thanks for looking!
