I live in the beautiful city of Saskatoon in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. Saskatoon is in the middle of a predominantly farming and mining area. As soon as I say that, people imagine a city on flat prairie and the prairie of course is pretty flat, but Saskatoon is full of trees, a river through the middle, and many walking and biking trails. It's a very beautiful city. I grew up in the neighbouring province of Alberta on a small family farm. I've always been interested in reading and writing about history. Biographies and memoires are my favourite genre to read. I always wanted to write and as soon as I retired, I knew what I wanted to do. I started writing farm history articles and they have been published for the last 7 years almost every month in a farm newspaper called the Western Producer. In the last 5 years, I've also had occasional stories published in a magazine called Folklore, published by the Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society. I loved living on the farm and it's this life on which I have based my first book, a biography of my parents' lives which of course, includes parts of my own life in the last half of the book. The happy parts of this book were easy to write but the sad parts were very difficult to face and write about. Now I've self-published 2 books on Amazon.
I've always dabbled in art and always loved watercolour. I'm always imagining what a tree or person or building will look like if it's painted and that started to become a kind of agony for me when I didn't do any painting. In 2016 I took my first art course and since then, I've taken another class but mostly just practiced techniques and picked up a few tips from YouTube videos. Two years ago I started selling my art in local craft shows. Imagine my surprise when I went to a garage sale and while looking through boxes of old frames, the vendor asked me if I was an artist. Humbly, I said yes, so she asked me if I'd like a table-top style of matte cutter. I bought it and have done some framing of my own work and even framed some pieces for a few others. I'm looking forward to what I can learn here.
