The Blackboard Artist

Hi there!

My name is Michael Tilley and my creative journey really started for me when I took my Art Foundation Diploma at UCA Epsom, United Kingdom. My love for hand-lettering and illustration began from there, finding inspiration from old film posters, vinyl album artwork and propaganda posters.

After travelling for a short time and not knowing what career I wanted to go into, I decided to work in hospitality and I asked my manager if I could create some artwork on the blackboards in the pub. The more boards I painted, the more I noticed how much I enjoyed doing it.

I now work with a small team of people that create bespoke boards, blackboard art, murals and interior signage across London and the UK.

My goal is to make a ‘Blackboard Artist’ a recognised job title and always keep hand-craft alive!
