I'm an award-winning illustrator/educator/entrepreneur who was trained as a photographer, and have worked professionally as an advertising art director, publications designer and art director; and VP/creative director.
I'm the founding director of the MFA in Illustration Practice at the Maryland Institute College of Art [MICA] where I teach graduate students; co-director of Dolphin Press & Print at MICA where we develop print and book edition projects with noted artists; and proprietor of Whitney Sherman Illustration and of Pbody Dsign, a limited edition homewares studio that expands the idea of how illustration is used today.
My experience also includes being co-editor and contributing writer of the History of Illustration, the first book of its kind to examine cultural, social and technical topics on illustration practice across the globe; and author/writer of Playing with Sketches, a book of 50 exercises in a variety of formats to expand the idea of drawing practice in a variety of disciplines.
I've exhibited my work in Japan, Germany, Mexico, China and the US in such varying places as the Norman Rockwell Museum, Giant Robot and Gallery Nucleus. Several of my illustrations are in the Collection of the Library of Congress.
I live in an Arts & Crafts bungalow in Baltimore with my husband Paul and cat Shelby.
