Wood carving and carpentry traditions thrived in Mexico during the 17th and 18th centuries, when altars, benches, statues and doors were finely crafted in wood. Even though this craft is falling into disuse, by walking the streets of San Miguel de Allende we ran into Don Javier, who still practices this art.
