Architectural Drawing Specialization: From Sketching to Digital Visualization

Italian artist Carlo Stanga’s illustration career combines his three passions: architecture, illustration, and travels. After studying Architecture in the Politecnico di Milano, he furthered his studies in Art and Design, which led him to work with major Italian magazines and newspapers, as well as international clients in Europe and the U.S.

After several years working in Architecture and Illustration separately, Carlo merged his two professions and became a leading expert in Architectural Illustration. He recently published a series of books with Moleskine, telling the illustrated story of 3 major cities: I am New York, I am Milan, and I am London, where he takes the reader on an immersive journey through each city, with illustrations of architecture, anecdotes, and the character that defines each city.

In 2019, he was a runner-up in the Creative Quarterly 55 for his illustration work in the book I am New York, and obtained the American Illustration Award 38. He holds a large number of awards for his work and has held personal exhibitions in New York and Milan. His long list of clients includes Trussardi, Moleskine, Lufthansa, Nestlé, Missoni, and more.

David Drazil is an architect who loves to sketch. Through his social media platforms, he shares his passion for the visual representation of architecture with over 233K followers. By creating educational resources on architectural sketching, David is focused on helping other architects, designers, and hobby sketchers to use sketching as a tool to improve their design process and presentation.
As a trained architect with international experience, David holds a degree in architecture and building engineering from Czech Technical University in Prague and a master’s in architecture and design from Aalborg University in Aalborg, Denmark. He also collaborates as a featured artist with the iPad sketching apps like Morpholio and ShadowDraw.

Pavel Fomenko is an accomplished architect and concept developer with over two decades of experience in the architecture and design industry. Currently leading a concept design division within AFRY Norway, one of Scandinavia's largest engineering groups specializing in infrastructural design, mobility, and transportation.

In his role, Pavel oversees the early stages of design development, ensuring that the team's creative outputs deliver relevance, inspiration, value, and innovation to a diverse range of projects, clients, and collaborators. His creative approach combines intuition and practicality, with exploratory sketching serving as a means to communicate the functional, technical, and emotional depths of his designs.

Pavel's project portfolio is diverse, spanning from private commissions to large industrial buildings and city master plans. He has been involved in groundbreaking projects like an 800,000 sq.m. industrial facility in Norway focused on next-generation research and manufacturing of high-density electrical battery cells. Pavel's expertise extends to transit hub development in Lugano, Switzerland, where he envisions a transportation hub at the heart of future master plan development.

Bradley Van Der Straeten is an architectural studio founded by architects George Bradley and Ewald Van Der Straeten. They met at the University of Liverpool, where they both studied architecture and quickly bonded over their passion for the subject. After graduating, they moved to different countries to work for large architectural firms. However, both George and Ewald realized their love of architecture was rooted in making a difference through their designs, and so they founded a studio of their own which allowed them to do exactly that.

Together, the creative duo focuses on designing colorful, fun, and sustainable architecture alongside their team. Their work has been featured in Good Homes Magazine, Grand Designs Magazine, The Telegraph, and more. They have also won a number of awards, including House Beautiful Magazine’s Best Home Transformation.

Ehab Alhariri is a Syrian architect and digital artist based in Washington, DC. He studied architecture in Damascus University, and after graduating in 2007, started his career as a design architect in Dubai. His professional experience in Dubai allowed him to work on major projects ranging from commercial and residential architecture, to hotels and high rise buildings.

He is currently the head architect at 4Space Interior Design. His designs have been featured in Architizer and CNN Arabic, among other news outlets, for his work on “A Futuristic Smart Sustainable Mountain” and “L-Lake House”. Since entering the digital illustration world, he has received wide online recognition, amassing over 102K followers on Instagram.

JJ Zanetta is an architectural illustrator. He grew up in Pittsburgh and began drawing from a young age, recreating the illustrations he saw in books. In high school, JJ began pursuing his love for architecture by creating drawings inspired by his city. He later went on to study art education at Mercyhurst University and began his career as an architectural illustrator at Urban Design Associates in 2007 before going on to establish his own studio, Zanetta Illustration.

Since then, he has spent more than 10 years working for clients including architects, urban designers, landscape architects, developers, and municipalities. JJ has also won multiple awards from the American Society of Architectural Illustrators, among other organizations.
