Introductie
With the Final Synthesis Laboratory of my 3 year bachelor, which was my first individual work, I had the opportunity to make my skills as a designer as complete as possible, perfecting every phase of the realization of a project, from preliminary analysis to engineering. I learned to meet delivery deadlines despite the amount of work involved and to present my ideas with conviction during design meetings with Epta management. The end result is a project that combines a number of innovations and growing trends in the field of food distribution systems as well as in its development as a product.

LUNCHPOD - Van het eerste idee tot de uiteindelijke uitvoering
This post aims to summarize a design process that spanned several months, leading to the realization of the LUNCHPOD concept, proposed as an innovative solution for the product catalog of the company EPTA. EPTA is a large multinational industrial group present on five continents, working with the goal of meeting the needs of all segments of commercial refrigeration, while interpreting the diverse cultures of consumers from different countries. The company employs more than 7,000 people and provides a full range of services, including supply, installation, and maintenance of refrigeration systems.
The design process began with the presentation of a brief by the company. In this initial meeting, emphasis was placed on three main topics: the increasing urbanization (“by 2050, 68% of people will live in cities”); the growing elderly population in developed countries, leading to the emergence of new markets dedicated to this demographic; and, lastly, new mobility, which is redefining performance standards in the transportation sector and optimizing the production chain.
The initial stages of my work focused on gaining a deeper understanding of what EPTA is, its system of values, and its brand identity. Research then extended to various trends that will shape the future economy, analyzing related case studies but, more importantly, seeking to extract statistical data that could suggest opportunities to intervene in specific commercial sectors. Another crucial aspect, once potential target audiences were identified, was conducting field interviews to gather qualitative data to complement the quantitative insights.
All this led to the definition of a macro-scenario on which to focus my design process, providing the inspiration for the initial concept of LUNCHPOD. This concept was subsequently “rationalized” during the product development phase, involving the definition of interlocking components, dimensions, joints, operating technologies, production techniques, materials, finishes, and much more.
