Creación de Kit de bordado, técnica Stumpwork

I've been wanting to create a Stumpwork embroidery kit for a while now, because it's one of my favorite techniques: I love its delicacy and the way it gives volume and life to the thread. For this project, I was inspired by one of my favorite flowers, the poppy. I'm fascinated by its intense colors and that ephemeral beauty that seems to disappear in a flash. That's why I wanted to capture a moment of its splendor and transform it into a three-dimensional piece, handmade and relaxed.

I first drew the pattern freehand and then digitized it with a tablet to better define the lines. Once the embroidered piece was finished, I used Photoshop to separate the different parts of the poppy and convert it into a pattern ready for embroidery.

I tried several fabrics until I settled on black organza, which adds lightness and depth. I used mouliné threads and two thicknesses of wire: a very fine one (0.3 mm) for the petals and leaves, and a firmer one (0.7 mm) to give structure to the stem. I also needed needles, a hoop, small scissors, and white glue to assemble the brooch.

Once I had the design finalized, I began embroidering the poppy as I had planned. First, I tried a simpler version of the pattern, which I printed in two different sizes: one for a brooch and a miniature one, with the idea of turning it into a pendant. I embroidered both versions to see how they worked in different formats, and while the result was beautiful, I felt it still didn't have the life I was looking for.

Something was missing.
That's why I decided to redesign the pattern from scratch, dividing the poppy into parts: petals, leaves, stem, and pistil. I wanted each element to have its own volume, presence, and movement. I wanted it to be not just an embroidery, but a flower constructed with threads and calm.

I also took time to choose the colors. I looked for those that were most faithful to the true tones of the red poppy: that intense, almost burning red, the deep black of the center, the pale green of the young stem. I wanted it to feel alive, even though it was made of thread.

With the new pattern ready, I embroidered again. This time it was exactly what I had in mind. This time, I documented every step with photos and videos: how to place the fabric in the hoop, how to start each piece, which stitches to use, how many threads to choose in each area. Everything needed to later create a clear embroidery guide that will guide anyone from the very beginning.

Seeing the finished flower was exciting. I took the final photos and prepared all the elements to turn it into a kit, also following Nuria's instructions to make the experience as thoughtful and special as possible.

With the piece already embroidered and all the photos of the process taken, the next step was to prepare the guide and pattern. I wanted it to be not only useful but also beautiful. I wanted whoever opens the embroidery book to feel like they're about to begin something special.

I designed the guide following Noa in Clouds' visual style, paying attention to every detail: from the choice of fonts to the background colors, including the way the instructions are presented. The structure had to be clear and simple, yet convey the brand's poetic and artisanal spirit.

I created two versions: a digital PDF, for those who prefer to work on a screen, and a printable version that accompanies the kit. Both have the same goal: to provide step-by-step guidance, inspiration, and a peaceful and rewarding embroidery experience.

With the pattern finalized and the embroidery guide already designed, it was time to put everything into physical form. I printed the embroidery book, taking care with the quality of the paper and colors, and designed and printed the labels, stickers, and every graphic detail that would accompany the kit. I wanted the experience to begin at first glance when I opened the box.

Then, I carefully selected all the materials: black organza, mouliné threads, wires of different thicknesses, needles, frames, white glue... Everything was carefully chosen to work well technically and aesthetically, and so that the person embroidering would feel like they were holding something special.

Once everything was assembled, I began preparing the kits by hand, one by one. Each element was carefully packaged, harmoniously placed inside the box. Thus, each kit becomes a small creative universe ready to be opened and embroidered at leisure.

A fundamental part of this project has been documenting every step of the process, from the design to the final assembly of the kit. Sharing how something is created with such care not only inspires others to dare to embroider and experiment, but also allows me to reflect on everything I've learned along the way.
