Do you want to customize your own tableware in a simple and handmade way? Designer Patricia Lázaro, founder of Chichinabo Inc., creates small collections of ceramic pieces with illustrated stories, some of them humorous and others more emotional, with which she tries to highlight the little things in life.
In this course, Patricia teaches you how to decorate your own dishes with digital ceramic decals. Learn everything related to this technique: from the selection of pieces to the final baking, including the creation and application of the decals. Learn what the process of ceramic decoration consists of, what a decal is, the types that exist, as well as their pros and cons. Then, see the necessary materials for the course and learn how to choose the perfect ceramic pieces.
Patricia helps you to come up with a solid concept and translate it into your pieces. Learn to think beyond the paper so that your pieces are not only beautiful but also filled with meaning.
She then explains tricks and techniques to help you illustrate with digital ceramic decals and transfer your designs onto them. See how to illustrate with patterns or directly on the piece, scan and digitize your designs, prepare your images, and design with Adobe Photoshop.

This course is for those who want to take their designs to a different medium or who would like to have their own custom tableware.
Requirements and materials
For this course, you don't have to be a great illustrator in order to create really cool pieces.
As for materials, you will a computer with Adobe Photoshop, a scanner, and a printer for testing. Besides, you will be able to use ceramic pieces that you have at home, paper, a 0.2 Edding marker, scissors, tape, tracing paper, tape measure, a plastic food container, water, a silicone spatula, and kitchen roll.
To print your decals you will need access to a ceramic supplies shop with a special printer; for baking, you will need access to a ceramic kiln. Patricia will give you a list of specialized places and decal providers, and you will also create an international crowdsourced list with the rest of the students to help each other out.
