Handcrafted silk screen printing is an age-old technique that has reinvented itself throughout history, giving rise to the creation of exclusive and impressive designs. With more than twenty years of experience, Ana Escalera, pattern maker and founder of the studio El Presente Perfecto, dedicates herself to this manual art, working on handcrafted prints and other projects for brands like Steve Mono, Dior, Zubi, and Peseta.
In this course, learn how to create patterns to print on fabric with the screen printing technique. Go through all the stages of production, from visual research to color treatment and pattern creation. To anyone interested in textile design. If you already have experience with pattern design, you will learn the tricks for adapting them to your own silk screen.
Requirements and materials
Basic screen printing knowledge is recommended to take the course.
As for the materials, you will need drawing paper, cardboard, scissors, black markers, A3 acetate paper, a pencil, tape, transparent tape, a ruler, and a stapler or glue.
For the screen printing, you can contact a supplier to deliver the screen ready for printing or prepare yours with the following materials: a 40 cm x 50 cm screen printing mesh and frame, a 30-35 cm squeegee, screen printing lacquer (2 colors), and scoop coater.
If you want to digitally edit your patterns, you will need a computer with Adobe Illustrator, a graphics tablet, and access to a scanner and printer.

Ana Escalera is a Spanish artist and designer who has been dedicated to screen printing for over 20 years. She previously collaborated with Hola Por Qué studio, where she worked with several designers, artists, organizations, and brands.
Currently, she has her own project, studio El Presente Perfecto, where she designs and prints collections of fabric and wallpaper. She frequently collaborates with fashion brands and home decorators, and teaches screen printing in her own studio and locations throughout Madrid.
