Learn how to use the software’s tools from scratch to design, model, visualize, and perfect your furniture in 3D

Domestika Basics · 9 courses included

Furniture design is a booming industry, which means more and more designers are entering the workforce every day. That's why it's crucial you know how to use a powerful tool like Rhinoceros 3D to make your projects stand out. Join industrial designer Christian Vivanco and learn how to model, display, and master the art of furniture design.

By the end of this 9-course Basics, you'll have the skills and knowledge to design different types of furniture from scratch, from the first lines to a piece ready for fabrication. If you'd like to learn more about furniture design with Christian, check out his first course Design and Conceptualization of a Chair.

Start this Domestika Basics with an introduction to Rhinoceros 3D and all the options it has to offer. Christian walks you through how to download and install the program on your preferred device and shows you around the interface.

Next, see how to create a circle, an ellipse, a rectangle, and a variety of other polygons before learning how to organize your work in layers.

The third course covers precision modeling. Learn how to draw lines in specific locations and start creating your first solids.

Build on these concepts by exploring the creation and transform tools for surfaces and solids and then find out how to make curves.

In the fifth course, see how to model wooden furniture, from simple lines to volume, joints, and the finishing touches.

In the next course, discover another important material: metal. Learn how to create pipes and extrusions and model a metal piece of furniture.

Then, see how to model upholstered furniture following the same process while contemplating the little details that make all the difference.

In the eighth course, Christian introduces you to the materials library and shows you how to create your own materials as well as how to use different displays and even create new ones.

To wrap things up, see how to make furniture plans in Rhinoceros 3D. Learn how to create general views of your design and set line properties for your plans based on your needs.
