Learn to create customized portraits with Adobe Photoshop

The secret to developing a versatile illustration style is not sticking to a single technique. Ricard López, better known as Ricardilus, has made that statement the basis of his work, and has found in portraiture the perfect canvas to merge and try out different styles and techniques. This has greatly enriched his professional life and has led him to take on all kinds of commissions.

In this online course, learn to experiment with illustration. Ricardilus teaches you how to create portraits from a photograph, develop it with analog techniques, and add color with digital watercolor using Adobe Photoshop and a graphics tablet.

Painter and illustrator

The passion that Ricard López—better known as Ricardilus—has for drawing started when he was three years old and was constantly surrounded by pencils, crayons, and coloring books, but the decision to focus on illustration as a career only arose when he began studying art at the age of 16.

He spent one year pursuing a university degree in fine art. He later began higher-level vocational training in animation and 3D at EASD Pau Gargallo, as he was always attracted to the idea of bringing his drawings to life. During that time, he alternated classes with different illustration courses and finished up his degree with an animated short film ("La Folie"), for which he has received awards and recognition in different renowned competitions. The following year, he enrolled in Graphic Arts at the Escuela Joso de Barcelona, from which he graduated in 2017. He currently focuses only on illustration, alternating all kinds of projects with different art courses.

His illustrations are based on the female figure, but he is a faithful believer that a good illustrator should never get stuck in a single style, so he tries to discover new worlds and techniques every day. This has opened the doors to working with clients such as Penguin Random House and Editorial Planeta, TSL Jewellery in Hong Kong, Joyería Suárez, and SofarSounds, as well as the Museo Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC), among others.
