In terms of materials, you need a ruler, a carpenter’s square, a combination square, a jigsaw, a circular saw (optional), a milling or cutting machine, sandpaper, a hammer, and a few other simple supplies.

If you don’t have all of these tools and are not familiar with what they are used for, this course provides a more detailed look into each one and its advantages, so that you can analyze your needs and acquire them at a later date.

Artisan Furniture Workshop

Patricio Ortega is an architect by profession and a carpenter by trade. In 2012, he cofounded Maderística, a small design and artisanal workshop producing signature furniture, where he works alongside Carlos Aracena with the aim of raising carpentry to the category of art and design. In addition, they teach workshops to try to give this undervalued craft the recognition it deserves.

His work was selected for the 5th Ibero-American Design Biennial in Madrid and has been featured in various printed and digital media publications including Nuevos Creativos Chilenos, Diseño de Productos by Juan Pablo Fuentes as well as in the web series Manufactura, which records the work of the new generations of artisans who have excelled in different trades.
