Do you know the difference between a photography book and a photobook? Although they may seem the same, they are not. In this course, learn hand in hand with impactful visual artist and excellent photographer Mariela Sancari to differentiate them and capture a narrative in a photobook that links concept and materiality.
Mariela teaches you how to read complex narratives with images in photobooks, focusing on understanding the development of the book's concept and deepening the relationship with materiality. She explains her work process and guides you through the creation of the first physical mockup of your photobook.

This course is for photographers, visual artists, designers, bookbinders, and anyone interested in exploring the photobook format with the right images or photographs.
Requirements and materials
No previous knowledge is necessary for this course.
As for materials, you only need a series of printed photographs and some basic elements such as white and/or colored sheets (you can start with letter size or similar), a cutter or scissors, a cutting board, glue, clips, a stapler, and a needle and thread.

Mariela Sancari is an Argentine visual artist and photographer based in Mexico. She works mainly with photography but also other disciplines, such as performance and the creation of photobooks.
Her work has been shown in photography festivals around the world. She has taught classes and workshops on photobooks, among other topics, in Mexico, Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, the United States, Spain, India, Singapore, and Switzerland.
In 2017, she and the Centro de la Imagen team in Mexico City created FOLIO, the first public collection of photobooks in the city. It is part of the library and already has more than 500 copies in its collection, all obtained through generous donations from artists and publishers around the world.

PlusIn some units of the course the subtitles would not activate.
It would have been a much better presentation if it had included a voice-over translation.
I was under the impression book construction was going to be addressed in greater detail, because of the following …

To me 95% of the video was artistic theory.
